Christine’s 6th and 7th Months

Christine Lisa Wing at 7 months

As they say, time flies when you’re having fun… and with Christine, time flies fast! She is so much fun. We can’t believe how happy she is. I’ve done the usual thing and posted pictures in the Christine’s 6th and 7th Months gallery. These aren’t all of them (there are 60+ pictures), but here is a selection of thumbnails:

She rarely cries, and is usually making some sort of noise (talking) and smiling. She is out of her “stunned” phase, and now often looks quite serious. She has been eating “solid” foods for a little while. I was teasing Lisa that the foods weren’t really that solid, but I guess it still counts. At her 6 month checkup, she weighed 18 lbs.

She has stopped spitting up (miracles will never cease!) so she doesn’t smell like rotten milk anymore. Yay!! She plays with her feet, and pretty well anything else she can get her hands on. And almost everything she can get her hands on ends up in her mouth. Speaking of hands, she has learned to clap on demand.

She really (that’s an understatement) likes to rock herself. She would go berserk in the Jolly Jumper. She moves her rocking chair across the room (even though it has no wheels). She entertained a group of school kids the other day at Andrew’s school as she rocked herself during a school play. I’d try to describe it (she basically moves forward and back very hard), but seeing is believing. She can usually stay sitting up on her own until she starts rocking and falls over.

She has her first two teeth (I call them bottom front teeth, Lisa calls them lower incisors). As has happened with Andrew and Matthew, the arrival of teeth also meant she was sick. She tries to pull herself up whenever she is down (physically, not emotionally). She can get into a crawling position but doesn’t move anywhere yet.

Lastly, she is a pretty funny girl. As I said, she smiles all the time. The other day we were driving to Lisa’s parents place (Christine’s Grandma and Grandpa) and she sneezed and then giggled like she had told a joke or something. It was very funny!

Christine’s 4th and 5th Months

20080304_christines_4th_and_5th_months.jpg

Yes, it’s been two months since my last update. I left the 4th month update so late that I figured I’d just combine the 4th and 5th months. She reached 5 months last Tuesday. I’ve posted pictures in the Christine’s 4th and 5th Months gallery

Christine is a great little baby. Actually, she’s not so little anymore. She chugs back her bottles and is eating her oatmeal and rice “paste”. She still pukes quite a bit. When we were Dr. Pallie’s a month ago, she said it was probably just that her sphincter muscle wasn’t tight enough yet. She didn’t think it was anything to worry about. She is well-proportioned, and nicely plump (or so Lisa says).

I think we’ve mentioned before that she does not like to lie on her back. She likes sitting up in her chair, or being held (but sitting up). We got our “Ultra Saucer” down out of the attic, and she loves it. Between that, and the Jolly Jumper, she bounces an awful lot. You’d think this might make the puking problem worse, but it’s ok 🙂

Lisa thinks that Christine has a full-head of luscious hair. I guess all of the other babies that were born last year have less hair, so I think Lisa is ready to have a perm done. If not a perm, then Lisa is excited to get out the bows and barrettes.

She is back to sleeping through the night again. She goes to bed around 9 or 10 pm, and is up around 7 am. She is a little fussy now, as some teeth are ready to come in. She often has very rosy cheeks, and chews on everything she can get her hands on.

I’m back

I got back to waterloo last Saturday. Everything went well and my luggage wasn’t lost! Overall the trip was amazing. I worked 8 to 5 every day, so we didn’t do much else. What I said in the first post is about it. We had two days off, one at the beginning and one at the end. We went to an aquarium and zoo and went sight-seeing. We broke into a fort, too. We then broke out, which was harder than breaking in. That’s about it.

Bermuda

So I made it alive and well. I went for 36 hours without sleeping so last night’s sleep was very welcome. Everyone in Bermuda is extremely nice! The cars always honk hello to each other and many times random people say hi to us on the streets. The scooters are terrifying. I refused to learn how to drive one cause I didn’t trust myself so today I drove with Matt. There were gail force winds and we had to go over a bridge that had ocean on either side. TERRIFYING! and we had to go really fast cause if we went too slow the wind would have blown us over. Hopefully tomorrow I’m more used to them.

We’re staying at the dockyard which is a big fort turned into a museum so we’re fully guarded on all sides. Lots of canons and 3m thick walls. It’s gorgeous and I’ve already taken lots of pictures.

Today was our first day on site. Didn’t do much but some surface collections and then washed the artifacts and catalogued them. No postmolds.

The flight was a lot of fun. Flying into Bermuda was the best cause we could look down and see the ocean and the beaches and the water is the coolest colour of turquiose EVER. I don’t think pictures will do it justice. Oh, and when we got off the plane there was a band playing music for us.

The wind is constant. IT NEVER STOPS! To get from our lounging/kitchen area to our dorm room and bathrooms we have to walk outside through this tunnel. It’s like a windtunnel out there right now. I almost fell over a few minutes ago. But the constant wind makes the heat bearable. Even though it’s so hot, because of the wind we usually wear sweaters on site. So I probably won’t be getting a tan.

Laura says hi.

Not much else going on right now. I should go now. Bye

So cute, she wins contests

UK babylegs

Here’s an email I got this morning…

Hi Alisa,

I wanted to let you know your daughter Poppy’s picture was chosen as the “Cutest Little BabyLegs” in our February Newsletter. I’m sorry I did not get in touch with you sooner to congratulate you, it was just sent out early this week, and circulates to over 14,000 people and retailers. I think she looks too precious sucking her thumb while wearing her UK leggings.

As the winner, we would love to send you a free pair of BabyLegs of your choice. If you could let me know what style you would like, as well as an address to ship it to, I will make sure you get your prize sent out to you.

Here is the link to the newsletter for you to share with your family and friends.

Classic Nintendo (NES) games online

I’ve only ever owned one video game console system and that was the original Nintendo (NES) system. I didn’t have very many games, but I loved playing Tetris, Dr. Mario, and Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. Several years ago I learned about emulators. I’m not sure exactly how this works, but essentially emulators are software that duplicates the game environment so it can be played in Windows.

I had forgotten about emulators until the other day when I was looking for a game online. I was expecting to find a Flash version of the game, but came across an emulator from NESCafe Web. As I looked into this further, there are loads of games now available online. They use Java to power them and they are exactly the same as the originals. Very cool!

To find a game, I’d suggest searching for the name of the game and NEScafe (for instance, searching for Tetris would require you to search for “tetris NEScafe” without the quotes).

If you are interested, here are the links I found to my favourite games:

Pictures from Christmas

I have a bit of time in the evenings this week, so as we’ve been watching the Star Wars movies, I’ve been putting the galleries online. I have 3 galleries ready from Christmas:

  • 20071224 Christmas Eve Party – There are pictures from the annual Christmas Eve party at our house
  • 20071225 Christmas Day – Lisa’s parents were here for the Christmas Eve party and stayed over. These are pictures of the 3 kids and all of their presents.
  • 20071227-29 Christmas Dinner at Church – On Thursday, December 27 we had our big family dinner (after a bunch of us were sick on Boxing Day) and then on Saturday we all got together again (unfortunately without Jason). These are pictures of the gym, us eating, as well as the various group pictures we tried to take.

Greetings from the West

Hello Family. It has been a while since I have put up a posting, so here goes! Life is good. Christmas was so wonderful, it was hard to say goodbye to everyone and I dreaded going to work that Monday… hahaha. This past week has been really busy with YSA stuff and all around good times. I went to Edmonton with some friends on Saturday, rode the roller coasters and rides at the West Edmonton Mall. It was so much fun! We were out really late and then drove home. But no worries family I was extremely well rested and it was an alert, uneventful drive home.

This week has been work and work and work (and hanging out with Aden). Next weekend I am going to Lethbridge. So at least I am getting outside of Calgary a bit more now.

Hmmmmm that is about all for now, not an exciting post but meeeehhh what can you do?

I will post some pictures of my car and some picture of the West Ed Mall….. eventually. Love you all!

Christine’s Third Month

christines_third_month.jpg

Yes, I know I’m a bit late, but Christine reached 3 months on Jan 4. I’ve posted pictures in the Christine’s Third Month gallery

She is doing great! She seems to be able to recognize us now. She especially recognizes Lisa as she gets the biggest smiles. Lisa loves putting all the colourful clothing on her. Her favourite outfit is a polka dot dress with striped leotards (there should be some pictures in the family gallery above).

Christine spends a lot of time doing tummy crunches. I guess she is still trying to keep her girlish figure. She does not like to be lying down. She likes to sit up and look around. Some people say she always looks like she is surprised (as shown by the picture above).

She is still throwing up a little after eating. The boys and I have started calling her Puke-adot (Lisa’s favourite dress plus Christine’s favourite habit).

Here’s a sneak peak for next month… she rolled over yesterday!

Lastly, when Julia was here she bought a new web cam and gave us her old one. If any of the non-locals want to see the kids, get one for your computer and we can “chat”… like Julia and Aden 🙂
